This is a book about leadership, values and vision. It’s a very accessible and engaging description of how one man’s vision brought about major institutional changes in the most difficult of circumstances. This is not really a ‘business’ book as such, it’s more a book about leadership styles, and how to change institutional culture / value systems.
I was very impressed by Mulally’s clarity of his mission, his vision for Ford, and how the two connected to the values of Ford workers. He demonstrated the primary importance of being able to communicate the vision and the values if you are to effect institutional change.
I found the book absolutely riveting, the complexity of organisational cultures is well described, and the difficulty of leading change is wonderfully explained. Mulally leads by values and example, this book describes his role as an exemplar for all involved in organisational leadership.
